奇幻小说「指环王」是由牛津大学的教授，精通语言学的J.R.R. Tolkien所写的奇幻叙事诗。在世界上称为名作而享有盛名，在日本也流行了近30年。在故事里讲的是霍比特族的佛罗多从养父（好象是叔叔吧？）那里得到了拥有毁灭世界能力的魔戒，而把戒指毁灭的方法就是把戒指丢到莫都火焰山的峡谷中。
由很多故事结合，如与精灵，矮人伙伴的相遇与别离，与凶恶的怪物战斗，追赶佛罗多的戒灵，魔王索隆的军队之类，使得全文都充满了紧张感。虽然被认为该书被电影化是不可能的事，但是前些年由好莱坞电影化获得巨大成功后，又掀起了奇幻电影的新浪潮。
在故事中登场的魔法武器很多，本回介绍的就是史汀。这是主人公佛罗多从养父毕尔博那里与密银索子甲一起获得的。在书里被写为“贯穿丸”，可能是为了让很多以前的读者习惯接受的原因吧。（额……，这期我无语中，日本的指环王翻译的很强大，书名叫指环物语= =，sting 翻译成"つらぬき丸"，严重鄙视下 = =，虽然有很多跟中文对不上的地方，但是还是根据日文原文写的翻译了。）

史汀是佛罗多的养父毕尔博与古鲁姆的战斗之后拣到的，这个故事并不是在“指环王”小说中出现，而是在“毕尔博冒险”一书中出现的。在这个故事中毕尔博开始杀死龙的旅行，在路上碰到了三只古鲁姆，并有被他们吃掉的危险。但是魔法师刚多尔夫机智的与他们拖延时间而等到日出，古鲁姆的弱点是一被光照到就会变成石头。之后他们在古鲁姆的巢穴里发现了史汀。
并且在指环王第一部中，佛罗多被剑所伤，阿拉贡寻找药草的背景中就有三个变成石头的古鲁姆。这些变成石头的古鲁姆好象就是被
毕尔博他们变成石像的。并且史汀的命名是毕尔博一个人打倒了一只巨大蜘蛛后命名的。
另外在指环王中，故事的中间的时候，佛罗多在地下坑道中的时候，史汀让人印象深刻。尽管如此，霍比特族并不是骁勇善战的种族，并不能很好的运用剑。但是，它能够感知正在接近的半兽人的存在并且发出蓝白色的光芒，相信很多人都会记得很多人给佛罗多发出过危险的警告，但是象这把剑一样的可谓是很新鲜吧。
在小说与电影中对于史汀并没有太多的介绍，这让很多人觉得遗憾吧。那么这里就将部分资料整合起来，一起来考察下史汀吧。

史汀在人类看来只有匕首一般的大小，但是对于霍比特族来说这可是一把有着短剑大小的武器。在不知写作者是谁的书“霍比特的冒险”上面写着，精灵族的统治者埃尔德隆在古鲁姆的住处发现了三把剑，分别是史汀，Glamdring，Orcrist（厉害的日本人都注上了日本的名字，如果是他们改的名字就是つらぬき丸，なぐり丸，かみつき丸。），而这些武器在精灵城市中做制作出来，并由龙，哥布林等袭击村庄后抢走的。
前面所说的三把剑虽然锻造的地方并没有说是不是在同一地方，但是有一点特征是相同的，那就是都能够感应到邪恶的存在并且发出蓝白色的光芒。由于这点相同，可以推测三把剑都是用的同一种材质。并且小说中说到Glamdring，Orcrist这两把剑由于很轻并且质地坚硬，是由魔法的金属“米斯里”所锻造而成，同样史汀能够给没有多大力气的霍比特族来使用的话，那么可能与另两把剑一样是由“米斯里”所打造。
调查了下小说与电影以外的关联书，在以指环王为蓝本的一款桌面RPG「Middle Earth Role Playing」中，Glamdring，Orcrist的材质是依希鲁那。这种金属是精灵所喜欢使用的米斯里与钛的合金，由这种金属做出的武器十分轻，并且强韧与柔软性十分出众。简直就是制作武器的理想中的材料。
告知危险的信号，从1000英尺以内开始发出蓝光，101~500英尺，100英尺以内危险接近的话发出的光芒就会越强烈。并不是单单发光，会根据距离而发出不同强度的光的设定十分有趣。
